Humane Society supporters
can’t sway Commission
Not even allowed to speak Monday
BY STEVE MARION
Standard Banner Staff Writer
Supporters of the Jefferson County Humane Society’s animal shelter packed Monday evening’s county commission meeting, but their presence didn’t move the group to increase funding so the facility can remain open.
In fact, they didn’t even get to speak. Commissioners voted down motions to alter their special session agenda to hear from the group. Perhaps the only message they were able to express came from a sign on the back of a little white dog one of the audience members held.
“Where would I be?” it asked, without the shelter.
