Financing in place for new City Center

Jefferson City has secured financing at 3.77 percent for its new $10 million city center campus.
Meeting Tuesday in work session, council placed on its December agenda a budget amendment that will provide funds to cover closing costs on $7.7 million in general obligation bonds issued late last month.

JEFFERSON CITY Junior Haney took the inbounds pass to begin the fourth quarter and headed toward the wrong basket before realizing what he was doing.
That was about the only mistake the Jefferson Middle standout made all night.
Haney fired in 19 points, including 13 in a pivotal third quarter, that helped the Elks pull away for a 59-40 rout of West View in the Middle Eight Conference opener for both teams Tuesday night.
Special meeting set to
examine school scenarios

Following a six-month study of Jefferson County’s school enrollment, school board members will begin looking at possible scenarios for dealing with overcrowding at a special December meeting.
The Knoxville Public Building Authority (PBA) has been analyzing the county’s school population since mid-summer, in a project designed to help board members come up with a definitive approach to break a seven-year logjam over a school building program.

Emma Mae ‘Nannie’ Ward
Emma Mae “Nannie” Ward, age 88, of White Pine, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Norris Health and Rehab Center in Andersonville. She was a member of Leadvale Baptist Church in White Pine. She worked for many years for Magnavox in Morristown and Greeneville. She worked for the Head Start Program in White Pine then went to the Morristown Program. She also worked for the Foster Grandparents Program for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ward; sons, Kenneth Ward and Roger Ward; parents, John and Kate Eldridge; brother, Charles Eldridge of Indiana. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Paul) Bailey of Knoxville; son, Calvin (Sherry) Ward of White Pine; sister, Ruth (Jack) Raper of Louisville, Kentucky; brother, James (Diane) Eldridge of Bloomington, Illinois; sister-in-law, Bertha Eldridge of Winchester, Indiana; many nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, November 13 in the chapel of Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine with Rev. Charlie Harkleroad and Rev. Charles Robison conducting the services. The family received friends Friday prior to the services. Interment was held Saturday, November 14 in White Pine Cemetery. Farrar Funeral Home, White Pine, was in charge of arrangements.
Robert Stanley Wilkinson
Robert Stanley Wilkinson, age 77, of Dandridge, passed away Friday, November 13, 2009, at his home. He was born in Farmington, Michigan, attended Lansing Catholic High School and graduated from the University of Detroit. A Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Army, he retired as a counselor and teacher with the Livonia Public Schools in Michigan with 38 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Joan Wilkinson; children, James, Diane, Susan, Tracy, Marianne and Laurel; step-children, Laurie and Sara; 10 grandchildren; brother, William and sister, Marilyn. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28 at Hopewell Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in his memory to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 215, Dandridge, TN 37725. Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge, is in charge of arrangements.

Roger L. Hutchison
Roger L. Hutchison, age 68, of Talbott, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at his home. He was a member of Jefferson City Church of God and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Hutchison; brother, Jimmy Hutchison. He is survived by his wife, Doris Hutchison; daughter, Stefanie Hutchison; sons, Scott (Twylia) Hutchison and John (Amy Beal) Hutchison; grandchildren, Laken Prater and Haley Hutchison; sisters, Lois Nelson and Brenda Barnousky. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, November 19 at Mayes Family Services West Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, November 20 in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday prior to the services. Mayes Family Services, Morristown, is in charge of arrangements.
