Sewer project funded
$4.5 million in grants, loans for Jefferson City

Jefferson City will receive $4.5 million in USDA Rural Development loan/grant funds to upgrade its sewer plant and extend lines to newly-annexed areas.
Rural Development State Director Bobby Goode and members of his staff visited Jefferson City Tuesday to make the announcement. The new project is part of a multi-million investment the town is making in its water and sewer systems in order to be prepared for the future.

Rough night for local teams in semis

MORRISTOWN – Jefferson County was represented by three teams in the semifinals of the Middle Eight Conference tournaments at East Ridge Middle School Tuesday night – and all three came out on the wrong end of their respective games.
In the boys’ bracket, top seed Maury rallied from a double-digit deficit against No. 4 East Ridge but wound up dropping a 54-50 decision in overtime. Later in the night, sixth-seeded Jefferson was blown out by No. 2 Lincoln Heights, 65-40.
In girls’ tournament play, No. 2 seed Maury suffered a 50-47 loss to third-seeded Rutledge. Top seed West View advanced with a 64-21 rout of No. 5 Greeneville.
The consolation and championship games of the tournament are scheduled for tonight.

BAE Systems closing plant

Defense contractor BAE Systems is closing its Jefferson City plant, according to a notice filed early last month.
The January 4 notice indicates that 57 employees who remained at the plant after a workforce reduction last August will lose their jobs, effective March 9. The workforce at the plant includes 55 full-time BAE workers and two temporary workers. The reduction is permanent, the notice states.
