Lynn Bates says that while World War I’s 100th anniversary in recent years brought it back to collective consciousness briefly, the massive conflict is for the most part overlooked.

An occasional movie, like “The War Horse” or last year’s blockbuster “1917,” might stir interest but, otherwise, The Great War’s impact and effects seem forgotten.
