The proposed 2019-2020 budget for the city of New Market does not include a tax increase, Mayor Beau Tucker said Tuesday afternoon.

Council members approved the first reading of the budget on June 10, with a property tax rate of 75¢ per $100 of assessed value. However, the city had not yet received the new “certified tax rate” made necessary by the county property reassessment this past year. That information was transmitted to County Property Assessor Susan Gass from the state on June 11.
