In a regular meeting with numerous topics and lengthy discussions, New Market council voted July 10 to pass a budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2019-2020 on first reading.

The ordinance states that the property tax rate of 75¢ per $100 assessed value will remain the same for next fiscal year. On June 11, the Tennessee Comptroller sent a notice to Jefferson County Assessor Susan Gass regarding the “certified tax rate” calculation for 2019 after the property assessment for the various cities.
