New Market City Council voted to lower the tax rate for 2020 from the current 67 cents per $100 assessed property value to 60 cents per $100 assessed property value at Monday night’s meeting.

Alderman Danny Whillock proposed lowering the current rate next year and Alderman Maurice Solomon and Frank Solomon joined him in voting for the decrease. Mayor Beau Tucker and Alderman Chris Fair voted against the new tax rate.
