Christ Temple AME Zion Church in Dandridge is a survivor.
Constructed about 1888, the little church building endured a move to its current site in 1935 — because the white population wanted to build a segregated school on its former grounds. It even overcame what was expected to be the end of regular operations in 2002. The tiny congregation, called “United in Faith,” rebounded and still gathers every Sunday to hear the message of Rev. Norman Jefferson.
