1970 Jefferson High tennis team

The 1970 Jefferson High tennis team finished its season undefeated, and included members who went on to influence some of the great players in the last few decades. Included in the group are Chip Brooks, who helped hone the games of such greats as Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Monica Seles, and Maria Sharapova; David Brewer, currently director of the U.S. Open; and Michael Bales, a Knoxville teaching pro who has coached several high school state champions. From left are Brooks, Dale Gentry, Steve Grossman, Tom Dickenson, Michael Bales, Brewer, Steve Albright, and Bill Quarles, high school coach at the time. – 1971 JHS YEARBOOK PHOTO

Jefferson City, Tennessee, is one of the world’s tennis capitals.
