Though created 86 years ago for the main purposes of flood control and power generation, the TVA quickly became a major player in recreation. Sport, play and fun in general quickly moved its lakes, rivers, shorelines and trails from byproduct to travel destinations.

The agency’s reach goes beyond what some might think, as it manages some 293,000 acres of public land and 11,000 miles of shoreline across the Tennessee Valley.
