1000-point accomplishment

Demonstrating her will to win, Makayla Alvey celebrates with teammates after Tuesday night’s come-from-behind win over Morristown West. Alvey became the latest member of the Lady Patriot 1,000-point club during Greeneville Ladies Classic Tournament, which JCHS won following Christmas. – DALE GENTRY | THE STANDARD BANNER

Makayla Alvey’s level of play may be a theological statement. Within minutes of being named MVP of the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies’ Classic she made it clear to a media representative that she wanted ‘to give God all of the glory.”

What she and teammates did not do was wait for Divine intervention to deliver the four consecutive victories necessary to walk away champs as well as victors of an Oak Ridge rematch they had wanted for a year. They scrambled, hustled, dug in and really did not like it when the Lady Wildcats took the lead, even though it lasted only a dozen seconds.
