The close of the 2020 U.S. Census counting period is 27 days away and, according to Jefferson City Mayor Mitch Cain, Jefferson City could miss out on the benefits of full participation. That principle applies for the county and each municipality that is undercounted, as much of the distribution of federal monies is based on population figures.

“The City has done a good job of trying to make (the looming deadline) public, to make it known, but we could do better,” Cain said. “I don’t think we are anywhere near 100 percent.”
