A drive-in goodbye for Kathy Combs

Linda Shuman, a lay leader at Jefferson City‘s First United Methodist Church, pours tea for Kathy Combs, who is retiring after 10 and a half years as the congregation and choir accompanist. Wanting to celebrate her service while providing a safe space to do, Schumann said members of the Staff Parish Committee came up with the idea of a Sunday afternoon drive-up reception on August 30. Combs and her husband Steve (right) enjoyed Britain’s favorite beverage under the driveway overhang as church members and choristers came by between to say thanks and leave cards of appreciation. She told a visitor that she will miss more than the blessing of helping lead worship. “Well, there’s the fellowship and the many, many friendships I’ve made beyond the job.” – MARK BROWN | THE STANDARD BANNER
