It only took a few hours for news of Bob Beeler’s death to reach the room where he’d spent 20 years serving Jefferson County.

County Commission happened to be holding its work session Monday evening, the same day of 83-year-old Beeler’s passing. For two decades, ending about four years ago, Beeler was a fixture at every Commission meeting, where he always held down the seat on the far left of the room. He was a vital part of the conversation on some of the group’s biggest issues, notably a major school building program and the lease of Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
