The City of New Market will apply to take part in an IRS program to pay off its outstanding debt to the agency for a reduced sum.

Having paid down what was a quarter-million deficit to some $145,000, Mayor Danny Whillock and Alders present Tuesday evening agreed to pursue a mitigation opportunity to retire the obligation for what they hope will be $75,000.
