Walker still loves flying

David Walker poses for a shot in 1984 during the 11 months he spent in flight training at what was then Reese AFB, located in Lubbock, Texas. His T37 training jet is in the background. – SUBMITTED

David Walker is a product of his time.

He was born in Knoxville’s old Baptist Hospital in 1962, the year John Glenn became the first American to encircle Earth, making three orbits in the Friendship 7 Mercury spacecraft. Air travel, outer space and a technology-fueled future had already become an American theme, as evidenced by everything from Ford Thunderbirds to “The Jetsons.”
