Keeping Douglas Blue

Jefferson County High Service Learning students spent yesterday morning picking up trash at Dandridge City Park Dock, as part of a project to “Keep Douglas Blue.” Student Evan Ellison’s Capstone Project is being carried out in coordination with the Jefferson County’s Mayor’s and “Keep America Beautiful.” Students not only collected trash, but had a goal to collect as many cigarette butts as they could to turn them in for points. Overall, 145 butts were picked up. “As a Jefferson County local, I love being able to enjoy the great outdoors and beautiful Douglas Lake,” Ellison emphasized. Above, Ellison hikes along the lake with a full bag of trash, as other students work in the background. – STEVEN LLOYD | THE STANDARD BANNER
