Rush Strong hosts Veterans Parade

“We wanted to do something to honor and recognize our veterans,” said Karen Smith, Rush Strong School teacher and coordinator of last week’s Rush Strong Veterans Parade. The school normally invites veterans to come inside and speak to the students. Due to Covid-19, however, Smith and the Rush Strong staff invited local veterans to a parade in front of the school. Students lined up on Old Andrew Johnson Highway on Thursday, November 12, waving flags, homemade banners, and cheering the veterans as they passed the school. “We had to get creative this year to accomplish this and keep everyone safe,” Smith said.
