Touting tourism

Lauren Hurdle, Jefferson County Director of Tourism, visits the Dandridge Dock. – SUBMITTED

Bass tournaments, a major generator of tourism dollars in Jefferson County, have been less adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic than other local events, many of which have been cancelled.

Jefferson County’s new tourism department, which began operation on July 1, is helping guide seven fishing tournaments on Douglas and Cherokee Lakes this fall. Lauren Hurdle, the county’s new tourism director, is also working on two bicycling events in the Strawberry Plains and New Market areas.
