Kawika Makua

Jefferson County's Kawika Makua (1) tries to drive the lane past Morristown East's Micah Simpson (2) during Friday's game. – J.D. VAUGHN | THE STANDARD BANNER

The final play didn’t work out as planned for either team. But Morristown East gladly took the result.

Inbounding the ball from half-court with 1.3 seconds left, the Hurricanes tried to lob the ball to their 6-foot-10 center Braden Ilic. Kade Parker leaped in front to deflect the ball away, but Kyle Cloninger grabbed it and scored the layup as time expired, lifting East past Jefferson County 56-54 on Friday.
