Smoke alarms need to be changed every 10 years because they can get clogged with dust and dirt, resulting in compromised response.

“You can’t talk about fire prevention without saying you need a working smoke alarm,” said JCFD Chief Lee Turner. “And there is no excuse in Jefferson City for not having a working smoke alarm. We’ll give you one and we will install it free of charge.”
